Hi! I'm a female of mixed background (asian/african-american) and I have 3b hair. During my teen years I was careless with my hair-flat-ironed every week for about a year or two, only to do it more frequently after getting a bad hair cut. Fast forward 4 years later and I've got heat damaged, significantly thinner hair. I want to start using sew ins as a protective hair style, but I have no idea how they work or what type of hair to use, do you have any suggestions for me?

Hey!

If you’re going to use sew in for a protective style to get your hair back on track, make sure to care for your hair underneath. How to Maintain Your Hair Underneath a Full Sew-in Weave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0akpGJVVcc

Depending on how long you keep your sew in in for is the best way to determine what kind of hair to use. If your on a budget there’s a lot of high quality synthetic weaves like Royal Zury YesOne. Human hair and Virgin hair can be costly so go to a direct wholesaler like Aliexpress.com.

I'm a white girl with dreadlocks that I had for 4 years now, I would like to cut them and try something new, I would like to get a sew-in style or weave that looks a little like this : honeyzandthebeez. tumblr.c om/post/468235907 36/curvesincolor-anabella-carrasco (take out the spaces) Do you think that's possible? I don't even know if you could advice me, i'm just looking for good answers :) Thankyou !

The hairstyle is cute!

You could def get a sew in like that! For the braiding/cornrowing part of the sew in, look at some YouTube videos with white hair to get an idea of the braiding pattern.

It’s all about the weave you get to achieve the look. In my opinion curly Brazilian hair (combed out a little) or kinky-curly Brazillian hair will be similar to that same texture. Of course you would have to bleach the hair if your looking to have the same color.

No problem and hope this helped!

Hi I don't want to sound ignorant or anything but I go to a predominantly white/ mexican high school and... I really want to get box braids but I'm Really nervous. I've had them in the past, but not for long because I felt self conscious after being asked ignorant questions and hearing rude comments about black hairstyles . I don't know what to do... I'm supposed to get them done Tomorrow but I'm nervous and I'm not sure If I should or not ... Help !?

People are going to talk regardless. And since you really like the style, get them because YOU like them. Be confident because lack of confidence shows. Don’t be nervous, I’ll put it like this:

Think about the time and money you’re spending to get that style…(excuse my language but) girl you better own that shit! In another message you were saying that you are trying to go natural, so I think getting box braids will be good for you because it allows you to get a break from styling your hair everyday.

Combing, brushing and styling and upkeep

  • Don’t brush dry curls.
  • Do limit combing, by incorporating protective and low manipulation styles such as: Rod sets, straw sets, twist outs, braid outs, buns and braids/extensions that are not too tight
